In this weeks episode I talk about my recent vacation time from the day job and how I finally got a chance to get under the hood of the animation program Toon Boom Studio 5.

To the left is a video of my progress so far on the a music video from my song 'LocustFist'.

Really digging this program and I have a feeling that animation is going to take up a larger part of my creative activity now!!!

Really cool video and the podcast gives us so much insight to the way you work. Great work! About the organizing of scenes you can do that in the Scene Manager which you can find in the Toon Boom Studio window menu. Just select the scene name and drag it into the correct sequence. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for listening Peter!!! Glad you enjoyed it! Yes I think there may be some things I didn't know about how the scenes work. I actually recently found out that they are actually put together when you export... Just a little different than Im used to with other editing programs... usually you can watch or listen to the streamlined process while in the program. Well more experimenting will commence for sure!

Thanks again for checking in man!

Another good one, Marshall! I tried out Toon Boom years ago, but got seduced by the ease of use in Flash. Now that I'm thinking about it again, maybe Toon Boom is a good choice? Thanks for the perspective on your process and thanks for making me think!

From what I hear flash and toon boom are kind of similar in some ways. I have never used flash but always wanted to. I'm thinking that either one is probably a good option :) Thanks for checking in Nathan!

Nice. Watching the video got me all into that song again. Some humbling words in the first few lines there. It will be cool to have a whole video done.
Thank thee Sir.

K, bye

Hi, I have been animating for many years. Listening to your podcast today brought back lots of memories. I can answer every question you asked, but that would only lead to the next 20 questions and so on. I want to mail you a DVD that explains animation in very simple terms. After you watch it you will be able to "build" any movie you want. Here are some answers: Build one scene at a time. Then export. Build the final movie in Adobe Premiere Elements or a similar movie building software. Elements is only $99 and it's stable. It will allow you to marry the audio and the visual. "Time or audio shift" is a problem you have hit on. There are several reasons for this. But building the final movie in MOVIE building software will fix it. It's the frame rate and the lag sometimes caused by encoding. Don't do any audio in the animation software (rough only). That will help you. Send me an email and I will mail you this animation DVD. it will walk you through every step of what you want to do.

This DVD I want to send you will also teach (show) you how to sync your sound, very easily, without doing all the time coding. You can sync anything, perfectly with this method. A child can do it. You can make animations, and they will look and sound great, using this method. Build the scenes in whatever software you have (toon boom is great) then export all the scenes. Then take those scenes and lay them on a timeline (in Adobe Premiere elements or similar software) and then put in the audio (your music) on the audi track. Then follow the technique for sync. It all goes fast once you have all the parts. Sync is a problem for almost everyone, but doing it the way this DVD will show you and the way I am describing makes it idiot proof and easy. You are on the right track. Toon Boom was never built to make a "final" movie. You figured that out.
