I don't know that many artists would argue with me when I say drawing monsters is FUN!!! Why? I'm not sure. Maybe because there are really not any rule's to it. You can kind of just let your imagination run wild. At least that's why I like drawing them. Above you will see some of my favorite sketches I've recently done and they're all monsters or monster related. The monster faces we're days I didn't know what I wanted to draw and I just started with a shape and built from there. For example on the right image I began with the left eye and moved through until I had a whole face. This was inspired by going to a Halloween shop I went to recently. Getting better at Monsters This brings me to the idea I have for this weeks SketchDaily Exercise. Now as fun as drawing monsters are I honestly have rarely dabbled in drawing monsters and would like to get better at it. So taking a cue from Chris Oatley of the Paper Wings Podcast when talking about drawing things of a more fantastical nature I'd like to practice drawing some things that are as close a reference to monsters as I can think of. With Halloween coming up soon I think it would be a fun thing for all of us to do. Here are some Ideas of reference images we can look up to help as reference for monsters. Potential Monster References - Wrinkled Faces - Corpse's (as nasty as that may be I bet it would help for drawing zombies) - Halloween Masks - Creepy Animals (I'm thinking Lizards, Crabs and Insects Oh My!) - Baby's and Cute Things (Take something cute and add a horrific element like fangs or claws CREEPY!!!) - Horror Movie Stills - Weapons (After all every monster needs the perfect accessories) - Skulls and Bones (If you guys think of more let me know and I'll add it to the list! ) So let's get to drawing some monsters! Hi! Found your site via a convoluted nest of links starting with Tumblr, trekking though Facebook, and ending up here. I love what you're doing here, and I'd like to contribute. I've got a daily drawing blog, and with your kind permission, I'll be posting stuff from it as tweets with the #SketchDaily hashtag, and occasionally to the Facebook wall.

thank you for checking out my blog and posting a comment! I'm glad to hear your interested in being part of Sketch Daily. I went over to your tumblr page and I really like what I see! You got some real fun and clever imagery. The one of the flower reminds me of a character I recently created called "Ted" that I'm thinking of making into a small webcomic series. I look forward to see more stuff from you man.
