Especially of these old drawings I did back in grade school. This here is probably from the summer before high school when Image Comics was brand new. Actually I'm sure it was because I was totally trying to do my version of the MAXX character with my Puma... Also I didnt know that I knew about light sources even back then lol... I only know this because it's hard to see but there is a lightly drawn lamp in the bottom left corner in this image lol. Too funny that I actually drew the lamp. Actually I still do this sometimes. Old habit are tough to kick I guess.
Definitely a lot of Liefeldisms in this image. Right down to the really bad anatomy. Aaaah the good ol' days. How many Liefeldisms can you spot? I see like 5 at least... probably there's more though. Anyways thanks for taking this trip back in memory lane with me :) Thank You for checking In!!! God Bless, -Marshall aka Calmplex Also Find me on Twitter, Facebook,YouTube, and DeviantArt. This Issue: This second issue follows Corben and Tholemo through there exploration into an ancient desert temple as there fellow crew member Minauld pursues the attackers from the previous issue. This adventure is really building up nicely. Paul's storytelling yields quick action that hits all those comic book happy spots with dynamic panel layouts. He also draws you in with a super intriguing Indiana Jone's style quest as we get clued into the ancient world of this shape shifting Cadian desert land from future Earth. It's obvious that Paul put's a lot of thought into his world building and storytelling. He uses 3D modeling to create certain element's like many of the vehicles and buildings. I am never pulled out of the story by an unnatural contrast of modeling v.s. traditional comic rendering like you might expect from lesser attempts. Needless to say the production quality on the book is superb and easily holds up to the quality of any book on the shelves of your favorite book retailer. Bonus Material Also as a bonus Paul's blog/podcast at ProcessDiary.com is a great companion to his work. You can really get a sense of how Paul works out all the creative decisions while putting together this comic book series as well as a peek into his thoughts on independent publishing and all of it's many challenges. As a creator this series has been a huge inspiration to me! A well done example of good storytelling and a very professional and exciting approach to executing projects. I'm happy to support Paul because his work hooks me in and brings me through enjoyable crescendo's of adventure. Also he's a super nice guy who I highly recommend you also support and keep on your radar! Get The Book!!! You can purchase Pandeia at IndyPlanet.com here or directly from his site ProcessDiary.com along with some of his other published stories! You can also email me here Wanted to make a sketch card tonight so I put out a call for what people would suggest I draw. Two of my friends Jesse Acosta and Will McKenzie suggested something from 80's cartoons. I thought to myself what could I draw that isnt done all too often. Then I remembered one of my favorite 80's cartoons Danger Mouse!!! So here he is in all his sketch card glory!!! Thanks Guys for the suggestion! I think I may take this opportunity to draw some of the other characters from the show as well. Did this Commission for Jamie Gambell of his character "The Occultist" last night while watching netflix with my wife. I actually penciled in this drawing like three times before landing on this shot. The other versions tended to be closer to a more realistic comic book style hero but I'm trying to stick to this underground comic/cartoony style ive been doing lately.
The idea I think with these commission's is to re interpret the characters into your own style. If someone is purchasing from me Im assuming that's what they're looking for. This character has not yet graced an actual comic book but Jamie has plans to introduce him in one of his titles in the not too distant future! He definitely has an interesting story and should prove to mystify! If you want to read a character bio you can check it out at this link. Check out more of what Jamie's up to at JamieGambell.com And if your interested in a commission feel free to hit me up via my Commission Page! Thanks for Checkin In!!!
